Therapy dogs bring joy to many people. Some may think that keeping patients company and making them happy is quite a simple task. However, not all dogs are fit for this job. This requires training and lots of personality too.
Maui is a therapy dog from Massachusetts. She makes the people of Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center happy. Usually, she would hang out in the common area or visit each resident in their rooms.
One day, Maui’s owner mentioned to the nursing center’s director, Nicole Croteau, about the dog’s upcoming birthday. So, she thought of getting Maui a cupcake on her next visit. Things evolved, and they ended up giving the sweet dog a whole party instead.
Maui came to the center thinking it was just one of those regular visits where she would bring joy to her friends at the center. She did not know that she was the one who’s going to have fun instead. The staff and the residents of the center excitedly gathered to welcome Maui at the recreation room.
They prepared her some gifts, cake, and a birthday crown to wear too. Croteau said that the residents gave Maui some toys and a new hairbrush. Maui was thrilled. She couldn’t help but smile.
The residents at the center were equally happy to celebrate their furry friend’s birthday too. Even the center’s resident who has dementia enjoyed the party. The smile on his face clearly shows how much the sweet pooch meant to him.
Today is Maui's 50th visit! Thank you to Sabrina and Maui for putting so many smiles on so many faces!
Croteau said that despite not being as alert as the other dogs, Maui is still able to bring so much happiness to the people around her. Therapy dogs like Maui bring joy and hope to many people. Whatever love they receive is truly well-deserved. Hopefully, Maui lives a longer, happier life for her to share that happiness to more people around her.
